Sage smoke is believed to heal, protect and purify the mind, soul and emotional body. In the spiritual context, sage torch can be used to energetically cleanse:
-in the self (aura, energy centers);
-your home and surroundings;
-military items (crystals, etc.).
Length approx. 12 cm
Dried white sage plant (Salvia apiana), from California
According to tradition, the smoke produced by burning sage binds negative energy, and when it dissipates, it carries that energy with it. Sage smoke changes the composition of the ions in the air, so after burning incense, you often feel that the air in the room is cleaner and it is easier for you to be yourself.
As always, before the cleaning process, focus on the application before setting the torch – for what purpose you are going to act.
If a flame forms on the tip of the torch when igniting, blow it until the torch smokes lightly and evenly. Smoke is what cleanses and dissolves negativity, not flame.
It is often necessary to light the trays repeatedly during one cleaning ritual.
After lighting a sage torch and leaving it to smoke, you should first clean yourself. It is best to do this by waving the torch gently and slowly around you. Always start with your feet and move upwards. Then over your head and circling around yourself. When you are finished, place the torch with the burnt end down in a fireproof container (pearl shells and containers filled with salt or sand are also ritually suitable). Then you can have your mind travel to where the sage is taking you.
As you move around the torch in different rooms, you may notice that you stay in some places longer than others. These are usually the places where energy is most stagnant and heaviest. You should definitely not rush, and it would be good to move at this pace and stop for as long as you think is right. The sage should burn for about an hour to maximize its effects.
When moving around with a torch, it would be good to pay special attention to windows, doors and other openings. It is not good to inhale sage smoke directly, so keep the torch away from your face. If you feel that you do not want to walk around your home or office with the sage, you can place it on a fireproof base or holder and let it smoke there (re-ignite the torch if necessary).
It is often recommended to burn the trays at the beginning of each new week to get rid of the old one and make room for the new one. You can also clean yourself and your premises with sage, for example, at the turn of the season or during the winter and summer solstice.
It is a good idea to keep at least one window or door open during the cleaning ritual to allow air to circulate.
Sage has masculine energy, so it can be balanced by lighting another incense at the end of the cleaning process.
